What you can expect on your tour
This coming flower season promises to be one of the best ever! We have had great rainfall in the area and this year promises to be a special one! We have very limited space left for our very popular 6 Day Flower tours.
- West Coast Flowers Exploration
- 2 nights Nieuwoudtville
- 2 Night Clanwilliam
- 2 Night Langebaan/Paternoster
- West Coast National Park / Fossil Park
- !khwa ttu Nature Reserve
Day 1: Be mesmerized by the wildflowers scenery.
The West Coast Flower Exploration starts in Cape Town as you head up to Nieuwoudtville from Cape Town. As this is a long drive one can do with a detour. Enjoy the best organic wine in the Southern hemisphere at Org de rac Organic Wine Estate, the best MCC with a croissant. This will take you most of the day, really start drinking in the scenery on leaving Vanrhynsdorp and taking the Vanrhyns Pass via the Bokkeveld escarpment to Nieuwoudtville.Take time to explore the succulent nursery at Vanrhynsdorp if time allows. It is quite the experience.
Overnight in Nieuwoudtville(BB)
Day 2: Explore the falls at Nieuwoudtville.
Explore Nieuwoudtville, the Falls, the Hantam National Botanical Garden, the quiver tree forest (no flowers here, but the quiver trees will have you mesmerized), the local community’s bulb nursery on the edge of town, and even the church’s gardens. Everything comes up with flowers at this time of year.
Overnight in Nieuwoudtville. (BB)
Day 3 – 4: Welcome to Clanwilliam
Drive to the town of Clanwilliam. The countryside all around here will be filled with wild spring flowers. Clanwilliam serves as the center from which to do numerous short flower routes – Graafwater, Lambert’s Bay, Leipoldtville and the Biedouw Valley. Also try to take some time to visit the Ramskop Nature Reserve above the town’s dam. It is lovely and worth the time (half an hour or more, depending on your energy levels).
Overnight in Clanwilliam(FB)
Day 5-6: West Coast most Seaside village
Drive from Clanwilliam to Paternoster. It is a shame not to experience something of the seaside whilst on the West Coast, and Paternoster is the epitome of West Coast living. Spend some time exploring one of the West Coast’s most beautiful seaside villages. Filled with quaint, whitewashed homes, many of them still original fisherman’s homes, the beach, the restaurants, and the lifestyle. There is plenty to do in Paternoster, and even the local corner café is something of a deli to cater for visitors. Take the woe-e-bike and go visit the penguins and sport a whale while at it/ learn to make art with local artist leather or pottery. West Coast Flower Exploration is still on as you are surrounded by different fynbos along your route.
After your lunch travel to Langebaan here you get a 1hr massage to finish of your day. If time permits how about a round of golf.
**An Authentic West Coast meal of a fish Braai is available on request and is prepared by a local fisherman + entertainment **
Overnight in Langebaan (HB)
Day 7 : Bid Farewell in Darling
After breakfast, travel from Langebaan to the home of the Southern African San people at !Khwa ttu. Learn about the San Culture and still get to explore the wildflowers and have lunch. Finish off the day in and around the charming town of Darling, known as the wildflower jewel of the West Coast, and for many Capetonians is where they come to experience the flowers in season. Visit the Renosterveld Reserve, the Tienie Versveld reserve and the Duckitt Orchid Nurseries. Finish off your West Coast Flower Exploration with beer testing at Darling Brew.
If you decide to stay, and to find Darling accommodation options to suit all budgets we will assist.
